On July 8, 1947 the Roswell Daily Record newspaper announced to the world that members of the 509th Bomber Group had captured a flying saucer. The news of this report sent a shock wave around the world and the little Roswell newspaper became the world's only source for information on the crashed saucer. A day later, on July 9 1947, the Roswell Daily Record published an article contradicting its earlier story saying that the object was a high altitude weather balloon-not an extra terrestrial craft. The Roswell Daily Record news articles were the most widely read publications on the Roswell Incident. Skeptics of the existence of UFOs believe the July 8th news article was a classic case of misidentification: while believers feel it was an accurate report which was subsequently covered-up by the military on July 9th. The fact remains that The Roswell Daily Record article could be a simple case of misidentification or evidence of the biggest discovery in human history.
